Went and got the granddaughter, who likes to be called "Storm", for a couple days. I had planned out 3 geocaches to try to locate. The first one was at a picnic area in Marble Falls overlooking the lake and the city. It is called Teddy Bear picnic. As we drove in to Austin to get her, I was concerned the cache might not be there any longer, because there was lots of road construction. Another one was located out by Max Starkie dam just a little a mile or so from the Teddy Bear Picnic. The other one was in a park in Johnson City, along the river.
Although we almost drove past it, we were able to locate Teddy Bear Picnic with out much trouble. Then we headed toward the dam. Although the directions said to stay on the right when heading out to the dam, we had to turn around a a few times, because we chose the wrong way at a couple of turns. I was watching my GPS watch and noticed we had passed our "target". So we turned around yet again and as we approached the area of the cache, a roadrunner crossed in front of us paused and then headed down a "trail' towards the river. Abby, oops I mean Storm had never seen a road runner before, other than on TV ads (Geigo Insurance), so that was very special. We continue down the 'road' for a bit and I realized we had passed it once again, so I got out of the car and headed back, and realized that the road runner had crossed right where the path was to get down to the cache!
I found the cache, Abby didn't want to scramble down the rock pile so she waited back in the car with Leta, and she informed us she had to find a restroom. I took a couple of pictures after I found the cache. It was wonderful. After I climbed back up and got in the car, I realized I still had the yoyo I was going to place in the cache.
After heading down the road, and stopping at the clean restroom gas station in Johnson City, we went to the park. Although there seem to be a lot of construction happening at the park, no one was around and we had the park to ourselves. Because I had read the logs regarding the cache, we found the fence and followed it back to the GZ. I walked right by the cache, but Abby spotted it right away.
I took this picture of her pointing at the cache.
Her mom saw the picture and using advanced photo analysis, deduced that her daughter might have a slurpee. Man the NSA should hire her! As for me I can neither confirm nor deny.....After we had found all three caches we stopped and had to "beburr" or remove all the cockleburrs of our clothing! This was at the LCRA park in Johnson City, Pedernels River Nature. Check out my awesome sunglasses!
Storm is slightly more styling than moi.
That night we got a travel bug (a "trackable that when other cachers find it, they can "log" and move it to the next geocache and you can follow it's adventures online) I found a souvenir flash light that says "Fredericksburg, Tx" on it. It was very light because it didn't have a battery in it. I tried to put a "AAA" battery in it but the battery was too large. So I named the travel bug "Travelin Light"! errr get it...it is a flash LIGHT and it is light because it doesn't have a battery...dah!! J/K!
The next day was a wash out, geocaching FINDing wise. We search a bit for "Rocky Ledge" in Lady Bird Park in Fredericksburg. But we did walk a great trail and saw a humming bird up close at the bird feeding station the park has set up. We heard lots of other birds but never saw them. My motto seems to be "I can hear 'em but I can't see 'em" After searching a bit for the cache Storm says she has to use the restroom, which seems to be a common problem when geocaching. I always thought GZ in the geocaching logs meant geocaching zone or ground zero, when looking for a cache, but appearantly it really means "go" zone! :-)
We did go back the next day (Friday) and headed down the trail and "we" found the other cache in Lady Bird Park. Actually Storm spotted it first! Abby thought it was neat that a Girl Scout was sitting on a bench placed by Boy Scouts. This was near GZ!
It was a couple of great days Geocaching with my best girls Storm and Leta!
